Today’s DIY tip comes from Gordons Tools Blog and its a quick guide on how to fix those annoying stripped screw holes in your door hinge. Since I have recently had to deal with this problem, I thought it would be appropriate for a post.
You will need:
- A stripped screw hole in a door hinge
- Wood dowels or wooden matchstricks
- Wood glue
- If the screw holes in the door hinge are stripped, remove the screws and hinge leaf from the jamb. Coat small wood dowels or wooden matchsticks with glue, and pack them in the holes. Wipe off the excess glue, and trim the resulting plug flush.
- After allowing the glue to dry, hold the hinge leaf in position, and drill new pilot holes for screws. Then drive in the screws. For extra strength, you can substitute longer screws for the original ones.
Now wasn’t that easy?
